Obituary of Elvira C. Orozco Our Founder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elvira Camarillo Orozco, affectionately known as “Mima,” who died peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the age of 91.

Elvira was born in Van Nuys, CA on January 25, 1933 to Julian and Atanacia Camarillo. She was raised in Pacoima, CA, along with her siblings, Raymond, Frank, and Helen. Elvira was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and ambition from a young age, and these qualities stayed with her throughout her life.

She graduated as a salutatorian from San Fernando High School in 1951 and earned an associate degree in business from Los Angeles Valley College.

Elvira served as the Treasurer for the City of San Fernando for 33 years and founded the City’s LA Mission Federal Credit Union in 1971. She made many contributions to the City of San Fernando and was highly respected by colleagues and community members. She was actively involved in several local organizations, including the San Fernando Chapter of Business and Professional Women, the San Fernando Women’s Club, Valley Family Center, the San Fernando Museum, the Pioneer Cemetery Restoration Committee, and many more. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Outside of work, Elvira was a devoted wife and mother. She married Angel Orozco on July 4, 1953, and they had four children together. She was a loving and supportive mother who always put her family first. Elvira loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, and dancing to her favorite salsa music. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with and the countless lives she touched in her beloved City of San Fernando and beyond.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Utter McKinley, 11071 Columbus Ave., Mission Hills, CA 91345, followed by the burial at Mission Cemetery. condolences and flowers for the family may be sent to Utter McKinley.
